Environmental Responsibility
In 2009, Joseph Mellot was the first winery in the Central Loire to attain ISO 14001 environmental management certification.
In 2010, they were also awarded the ‘Agriculture RaisonnĂ©e’ (Integrated Agriculture) certification which shows a commitment to the environment above and beyond merely respecting regulations. They were also the first French business and vineyard to join the 10:10 climate change campaign in autumn 2009, committed to the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gases.
Joseph Mellot also holds the BRC certification and the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HighEnvironmental Value) level 3 certification that promotes environmentally friendly practices including biodiversity conservation, plant protection strategy, management of fertiliser use and management of water.
Sustainability is key for Joseph Mellot and this is reflected in our rigorous, environmentally friendly viticulture and winemaking practices, with our Domaine des Mariniers vineyard certified organic from the 2023 vintage.
They have made 5 key commitments:
To save resources
To respect the environment
To preserve the countryside to enable and maintain biodiversity
To contribute to the economic and social development of the area
To reduce CO2 emissions by 5% per year
