Each year we ask colleagues, customers and friends in the trade to vote for which Green project Hatch Mansfield should get involved with in our continued ecological efforts. In 2018, of the three projects nominated, the winner was ‘Kenya Tree Planting and Protecting the Amazon’; for each tonne of Co2 offset, one native tree is planted in the Kikuyu escarpment forest on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, Kenya. In addition, a tonne of Co2 is offset through the Brazilian Amazon Carbon Standard verified Reduced Deforestation project to guarantee the emission reductions. This year we have offset 846 tonnes of CO2, which is calculated from the CO2 created by the distribution of our wines to market and office and travel usage. Previous projects have included the construction of community boreholes in rural Uganda and Rwanda.
