Joseph Mellot Green Matters

In 2009, Joseph Mellot was the first winery in the Central Loire to attain ISO 14001 environmental management certification. In 2010, they were also awarded the 'Agriculture Raisonnée' (Integrated Agriculture) certification which shows a commitment to the environment above and beyond merely respecting regulations. They were also the first French business and vineyard to join the 10:10 climate change campaign in autumn 2009, committed to the voluntary reduction of greenhouse gases.

In 2010 Joseph Mellot reduced CO2 emissions by 9% - which is the equivalent to a standard European car travelling 750,000 km. A further 9% was saved in 2011. So, over 2 years the equivalent to 1.5 million km have been saved in CO2 emissions. Joseph Mellot is working toward sustainable development and is committed to economically viable and environmentally friendly viticulture.

They have made 5 key commitments:

  • To save resources
  • To respect the environment
  • To preserve the countryside to enable and maintain biodiversity
  • To contribute to the economic and social development of the area
  • To reduce CO2 emissions by 5% per year
