Louis Jadot Green Matters

For Louis Jadot healthy, ripe grapes are very important to produce wines with personality and a sense of terroir. In order to achieve this great care and attention is paid to the health of the fruit in the vineyard. Louis Jadot's philosophy in the vineyard and in the winery is one of minimal intervention. For the past 20 years Louis Jadot has banished the use of all synthetic products (fertilisers, herbicides etc) on their own vineyard soils, applying traditional practices instead. All work is done either by tractor, or for the more inaccessible sites, by horse.

Louis Jadot try not to disturb the deep soils. Vines are encouraged to grow their roots in such a way to mine the soil's minerality. This allows them to fight disease more naturally and efficiently. Yields are controlled by adaptive pruning, and sometimes, by growing competing grasses between rows of vines planted on deeper, richer soils. Yields which are too high unbalance a vine's biochemical processes so it is important to control these.

Biodynamic: In the last 5 years 14 hectares of vineyards around Beaune, plus the Rochegrés vineyards at Château des Jacques in Moulin à Vent have been managed biodynamically.
